I attended the District 1 candidates meet and greet tonight at the Natomas Community Center, which was sponsored by the Natomas Community Association. Three candidates are currently vying for the Council seat which is currently held by Ray Tretheway.

The candidates are Angelique Ashby, Lisa Kaplan and incumbent Ray Tretheway.

Each of the candidates gave a five minute presentation and then split up and answered individual questions from community members. I asked each of the three candidate’...

Thretheway disappeared first, while the event was in full swing. He apparently told people he had another engagement to go to. I think it would have been wise for him to have mentioned that in his presentation remarks -- something like "I want to meet and talk with as many of you as I can, but I regret that I will need to leave at 7 PM, so if I miss an opportunity to speak with you, please feel free to call or email me." But he didn't -- he just went absent.

Kaplan stayed longer but there were still at least a couple dozen people there when she left.

Ashby stayed until the very end and appeared to engage everyone who wanted to speak with her, even after the event in the parking lot of the community center.

Tretheway does not have a campaign Web site at all. Kaplan has a very small one (http://www.kaplan4council.com) and Angelique's Web site is quite thorough (http://www.AngeliqueAshby.com).
