Groups fighting a Nestlé water-bottling plant in Sacramento are bringing a documentary about the bottled water industry to the Crest Theatre Wednesday night.

Save Our Water Sacramento and the Alliance for Democracy's Defending Water for Life campaign are hosting two screenings of "Tapped," a 76-minute film examining the industry and the question of whether access to water is a human right or a commodity that should be bought and sold.

"We felt that now is an important time to bring that kind...

Sacramento has no new jobs they need every job they can get. I seem to recall Sacramento laying off alot of cops and goverment employes because there broke. Sacramento has been loesing more jobs in that area faster then most of the country. So its either allow this to happen or keep bitching and have nothing creating jobs in Sacramento at least a few people would be able to get off unemployment and get a decent wage and REALLY good health insurance. It would create way more jobs then you think do you even know how many employs work at some of these plants there not small. plus people would gain jobs by bringing materials in and out of the place how much freight do you think they could create for truck drivers and diffrent materials needed to run this place. heck need maitnence workers, general labors, osha certified forklift operators , cleaning crews, mangement, office, computer operators. Keep bitching and wondering why all are jobs are going to CHINA thanxs to bill clinton for removing all tariffs and trade restrictions from that country. both bush and obama support free trade with CHINA and so does every one in congress except maybe 2 or 3 people were screwed...

my point is this group wants to sell tickets and take your money just as much as Nestle wants to sell you water and take your money. It is all about the Cash... Who is monitering the group that made the film? Where does their money come from? What is their carbon foot print? My point is that if they are going to make money off of killing jobs in our region who is willing to step in and fill the gap? This deal was legal and above board (http://www.sacto.org/index.cfm/sacto_news/press_releases/nestle-waters-north-america-selects-city-of-sacramento-for-new-facility/) and all the elected officials and local goverment was in favor of it. I wish our elected officials would grow a pair, I am sick of seeing knee jerk reactions that cause our region to loss even more jobs. California is a tough place to make a $ these days.

Surely we can be more creative in the effort to build a job base SUSTAINABLY rather than selling off our precious water supply to this firm that has the record it does... Our city adopted a sustainability ordinance some time ago, and this Nestle deal flies in the face of it, and if its history is any predicate, the jobs promised -- between 15 and 40 -- not only aren't all that much, but they probably won't materialize. I'd suggest learning something about Nestle's practices by seeing this documentary tonight at the Crest, as well as viewing the documentary FLOW: FOR THE LOVE OF WATER to get a grasp on just how insidiously corrupt Nestle is, along with learning something about sustainable economics, before launching to such conclusions... which in and of themselves, are not sustainable...
