Groups fighting a Nestlé water-bottling plant in Sacramento are bringing a documentary about the bottled water industry to the Crest Theatre Wednesday night.

Save Our Water Sacramento and the Alliance for Democracy's Defending Water for Life campaign are hosting two screenings of "Tapped," a 76-minute film examining the industry and the question of whether access to water is a human right or a commodity that should be bought and sold.

"We felt that now is an important time to bring that kind of film to Sacramento so people can find out what kind of issues we're facing with this proposed Nestlé bottling plant," said Sacramento resident Evan Tucker, a leader of Save Our Water Sacramento. "It deals with Nestlé in particular, but also the effects of the industry in general — from the petroleum refineries used to make the plastic, to the trash that plastic creates and the effects on communities losing access to their water."

The movie was created by Santa Monica-based Atlas Films, led by director Stephanie Soechtig and executive producers Michelle and Michael Walrath.

The event is a fundraiser for Save Our Water Sacramento. After each showing, organizers will discuss how the film connects to Sacramento and answer questions about the Nestlé water-bottling plant, Tucker said.

"It's a very powerful film," he said. "We want people to understand that this is happening in Sacramento, and if they feel strongly about it, they can do something about it."

"Tapped" will be shown at 5:30 and 8 p.m. Wednesday. Tickets for students and seniors are $6 and $9.50 for the general public.

Yeah, let's chase away even more jobs when people need them the most... oh, and lets not forget about tax dollars that the City and County will also not see. I guess we as a community have not hurt enough from the lose of jobs and tax dollars yet?

Surely we can be more creative in the effort to build a job base SUSTAINABLY rather than selling off our precious water supply to this firm that has the record it does... Our city adopted a sustainability ordinance some time ago, and this Nestle deal flies in the face of it, and if its history is any predicate, the jobs promised -- between 15 and 40 -- not only aren't all that much, but they probably won't materialize. I'd suggest learning something about Nestle's practices by seeing this documentary tonight at the Crest, as well as viewing the documentary FLOW: FOR THE LOVE OF WATER to get a grasp on just how insidiously corrupt Nestle is, along with learning something about sustainable economics, before launching to such conclusions... which in and of themselves, are not sustainable...

A handful of low-paying jobs at any price? No thanks, trapper. The Nestle deal is a bad one.

I hope that the coordinators of this event sent invitations to the city council. It will be interesting to see which of the slime balls will show up.

I know Tretheway, the biggest slime on the Council will not be at the showing, he will be at a candidates forum for District 1.

The forum will be held at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 21 at the South Natomas Community Center located at 2921 Truxel Road

We need to look at the net affect this deal would have on our city, not just short-term profits and a handful of jobs. This is a bad deal for Sacramento.

Looks like they are charging to see their movie - maybe they would be willing to hire the 50 people that Nestle was planning on employing? This is crazy!

Huh? Why wouldn't one have to pay money to see a film in a theater? Crazy? Maybe you could explain what you mean, Reno.

my point is this group wants to sell tickets and take your money just as much as Nestle wants to sell you water and take your money. It is all about the Cash... Who is monitering the group that made the film? Where does their money come from? What is their carbon foot print? My point is that if they are going to make money off of killing jobs in our region who is willing to step in and fill the gap? This deal was legal and above board (http://www.sacto.org/index.cfm/sacto_news/press_releases/nestle-waters-north-america-selects-city-of-sacramento-for-new-facility/) and all the elected officials and local goverment was in favor of it. I wish our elected officials would grow a pair, I am sick of seeing knee jerk reactions that cause our region to loss even more jobs. California is a tough place to make a $ these days.

To the people complaining about the loss of 60 jobs, check out the hassle that other communities have had with Nestle'. They are a major problem!

Sacramento has no new jobs they need every job they can get. I seem to recall Sacramento laying off alot of cops and goverment employes because there broke. Sacramento has been loesing more jobs in that area faster then most of the country. So its either allow this to happen or keep bitching and have nothing creating jobs in Sacramento at least a few people would be able to get off unemployment and get a decent wage and REALLY good health insurance. It would create way more jobs then you think do you even know how many employs work at some of these plants there not small. plus people would gain jobs by bringing materials in and out of the place how much freight do you think they could create for truck drivers and diffrent materials needed to run this place. heck need maitnence workers, general labors, osha certified forklift operators , cleaning crews, mangement, office, computer operators. Keep bitching and wondering why all are jobs are going to CHINA thanxs to bill clinton for removing all tariffs and trade restrictions from that country. both bush and obama support free trade with CHINA and so does every one in congress except maybe 2 or 3 people were screwed...

food and water are the only factories that will be in this country before long all other manufacturing jobs are going over seas thanks to free trade with CHINA. thanks bill clinton so much for free trade with china. 70 percent of all non food items come from this country and even now alot of are food supply is comeing from china. like juice concentrate. Are goverment is retarted and so are the people in Sacramento. i'm not sure how libs or conservs can keep voteing us down the drain america needs to wake up before its 2 late. www.infowars.com
