I have to give big kudo's to Richard Noss, Jacob Griscom and RailBridge Cellars for hosting this event. The facility is fantastic for groups and the wine was surprisingly good. I say surprisingly, because being a bit of a wine snob, I wound have never thought I would like a wine our of Sacramento. I did. As for the featured speaker, Cecilia Jensen, I have nothing positive to say. She stated many things, that I’m sure in hindsight, she probably wishes she did not say.

Changing any groups considerations takes decades and even generations I share in Mr Knaps frustrations in getting the whole human race to care about everything. I grew up in Saginaw Michigan where Dow Chemical and The now defunct GMC had their way with dumping as they saw fit. turning Michigan into a cesspool of toxins and destroying the waterways.

One can get mired in disapointment and dispair. Its important to point out neglect and doless officials but one must set a good example and remember the wins along the way as well to avoid permanent apathy.

Jacob the only criticism I had...was strictly limited to the the organizational efforts of all so called enviornmental" groups in Sacramento; there simply is no unified voice. Environmentalists in Sacramento are almost all arm-chair activists. Local elected officials wrap themselves in the Green label, merely to get elected. As long as their is no organization, and the Greenie groups allow politicians to use them... all of the "enviornmental" efforts in Sacramento are a waste of time.

I appreciate critics. It gives me a chance to check in with myself and my actions. I feel very pleased about what we are building with the forum. I do not think that we are fragmenting at all, exactly the opposite. We are bringing people together. I also think that we are indeed politically active, but being political is not synonymous with being antagonistic.

From the results of the county’s decisions it is clear that more needs to be done in Sacramento, but it does not make any sense to me to point fingers at the County’s first Sustainability Program Manager. Cecilia Jensen and the programs she is involved with to address climate change are a step in the right direction. They are, in fact, seeking input and direction through community outreach. The forum may even be an opportunity for this.

Jim and Cecilia have in fact both pointed to the challenge of the influence of short term monetary gain over long term sustainability. We certainly all understand that this is one of these core issues for our future that we all share with our global community. For each of our parts, we can only ask, “What are we doing to change this, and how effective are our actions?”

I will do as much as I can, as effectively as I can.

You are all invited to bring your input and leadership to the table at the next forum:

Wish I'd attended the forum and could get a fair read on the presentation. From your scathing report, I get more of an impression of the agenda you brought into the room rather than any of the issues the speaker brought to the table. As someone who has a vested personal and professional interest in how the county and cities handle sustainability, I would hope for a less biased report. Understood it's your opinion and you have every right to state it. Re-reading your post, though, sounds like you have a chip on your shoulder about just about everyone and everything. I'm still relatively new to this town; open to all views, just not impressed by the rant and the "I'm smarter than the rest of you" approach. I thought I left that behind in a previous part of the state.

Herein lays the reasons why a democratic system fails: appointments born out of cronism, nepatism and favoritism. We wont be able to improve anything until we apoint our leaders out of past successes or a demonstration of the ability to increase or better a statistic of magnitude.
