Sacramento, CA- At 11:27 pm, Tuesday night, Metro Fire received multiple calls for an apartment fire at 2420 Arden Way, #52.

After speaking with Christian Peebles (Metro Fire PIO) this morning , we learned that when fire units arrived, they found the bottom floor of the unit fully involved. The fire was contained to that unit, however 3 other units were smoke damaged, per Peebles.

Metro Fire arrived in 5 min and quickly knocked the fire down in 10 minutes with 18 firefighters, saving the rest of the apartment complex.

Per Peebles, there was one fatality. The badly burned body was found on the initial search of the unit and was burned burned bad enough that they were not able to identify the body on scene. The fire was of suspicious origin, per on scene firefighters and an arson investigator was summonsed to the scene.

"Metro Fire would like to remind our citizens that several working smoke alarms are still the best defense against surviving a working fire."

One of the best pieces of journalism ever on this little blog.

Good job on your story Mr. Fogle. Question.....Why did you leave out the work of the adjoining agencies on the outstanding property save? Your fist picture shows Fire Engine 19 right in-front of the entry to the fire building. This Engine is apart of the Sacramento CITY Fire Department. In this County, Black Turnouts are worn only by City Firefighter and Metro uses only Tan Colored (good way to identify). This apartment exist in the County of Sacramento but with boundary drops, City or County units can be "first-in" to areas around the Borders of the City and County. Make sure when you talk to the PIO's (Pebbles for Metro and Doucette for City) you get this information to accurately tell the story. A good Idea would be to get a list of all the Engine, Truck, Medic, and Battalions, and whatever respective Departments they are apart of. Everyone looked like they did a good job and worked their rears off, however, They " ALL" worked together as a team.....Not just one Department taking care of it all as Mr. pebbles made it sound.

Well put and well taken Martin. You obviously have good knowledge of the EMS system in Sacramento and are well written. I'm always very up front that I am a photographer, not a journalist. I hope with your knowledge and writing ability you intend to contribute to SacPress not only with critiques but also with journalistic content. If you check this "story line" you will notice that I'm not objective as I should be, but readily admit I'm a strong supporter of Sac City Fire and have a very good working relationship with Doucette. When asked a few months ago to do a write-up on Sac City Fire, I declined because of my bias and inability to be objective on the topic. At Maverick we have a team of photographers that bring a good percentage of the action media you see on your local TV news and media outlets; we are not journalists. To be "frank", we have lost almost all respect for THE major local newspaper, and that is why we do our best in delivering our photos here with as accurate a snap shot write up as we/I can put together real quick. Countless times, we have alerted SacBee to major incidents (that they are unaware of ) that we have action photos of that accurately depict the story, and they almost always opt to send out a photographer to get "aftermath" photos that do not represent the story well. So, bottom line, due remember that this is civilian based news, and we would rather bring you the dynamic action photos and a brief written snapshot of the incident rather than let the photos sit on our hard drives and you remain uniformed. We would love to have some writers on our team and if you would like to do that, your are definitely invited. At Maverick, we love and appreciate SacPress and have a strong respect and good working relationship with their staff, collaborating often. Though SacPress is not focussed on breaking/action news, we appreciate that we are able to deliver that to you here. I agree whole heartedly that our journalism is not top drawer but look forward to individuals who have a heart for it to join our team and compliment our photos with exceptional journalism--I don't think the SacPress staff would complain at all.

i think the story was good and did not need a shopping list of details. I would like to know if their is going to be some follow-up on this story? Arsen? Body with no ID.... we should have more crime write-ups here. With the Sac Sheriff losing deputies in droves.... what a shame.

dahogre- thank you for your comment. As I stated in the above comment, we are not journalists, but action/breaking news photographers. While covering a myriad of incidents last night, both my partner and I were saying how nice it would be if we had someone on our team that could and would enjoy following up on our daily stories. As we have to move on to "todays'" breaking news, we are constantly moving forward and, unfortunately, do not have the luxury of looking back to follow up. if you or if you know any one who would like to join our team to add that facet, we eagerly invite you.
