Yup, guys dressed as girls and other cross dressers.

Yup, another ignorant comment by a close minded conservative threatened by change.

Trapper---It's a street party. Would you rather folks wear a business suit? That doesn't sound too fun to me.

Is this insult given because the observation is not true?

It's given because the comment is intentionally derisive and strive to focus on the negative as if that were the only aspect of the entire day. African Americans have festivals, do I say "Yup, more angry blacks, probably a lot of guns."

Trapper, don't try to pretend you weren't being offensive. People don't make posts like yours unless they are trying to demean or otherwise put down the people involved in the event.

And, as others have pointed out, the VAST majority of the people at the event were NOT cross dressers. So what WERE you trying to say, huh?

..."It's given because the comment is intentionally derisive and strive to focus on the negative"...
So, this observation focuses on the negative? I did not see any editorial in it, as you suggest. ("Yup, more angry blacks, probably a lot of guns.")

I see a great deal of editorial in it, as those comments describe nothing of the festival. It makes it seem as though that's all gay people do, and that's all that was there, when nothing could be further from the truth. She's a bigot at worse and a simpleton at best, if she believes that that is what the entire festival was comprised of.

I think one would need vast knowledge of another to come to that harsh a conclusion. Perhaps its just a snap judgement, based on the Trapper comment that I believe is intended to stir up thought. Almost like the intent of a guy in ladies wear and makeup?.

Nope, just based off of her initial comment and the intention apparent behind it, as well as her follow up comments.

Oh, so stating the obvious is closed minded? Party all you want jtf and TomR., who's stopping you from wearing pink and strutting around in some sensible pumps?

How can you be offended if what I stated is true? Do you feel like a victim when I say what I saw in the photos out loud?

The only thing that offends me in life is when my waiter doesn't put enough dressing on my salad.

I just find it odd that you look a pics from a street party and complain that people are having fun by dressing up in wacky clothes. It would be me complaining that folks wear too much green on St. Patrick's Day.

I don't think I complained about anything, did I?

I also still don't understand why you guys are all worked up by someone expressing their thoughts in a polite way? In this case, the rude one is jsf8278 who feels the need to label someone in an attempt to provoke me in an aggressive way. Grow up dude.

Ok Trapper....I'll take your word that you did not mean to offend. Maybe you wish to elaborate on your feelings about feelings on drag queens, street parties and the LGBT community in general.

No Tom, I don't think I should.

Paul and others at this point are only out to label me in a negative tone no matter what I say. At this point Mark and Paul are all about putting words in my mouth because they are acting mean spirited and appear to be carrying around allot of negative energy.

You all sound super sensitive, petty, disrespectful and boorish, well done guys.

I think you're missing a perfect opportunity to clarify your position. If you don't want folks to put words into your mouth, the best way to avoid that is to speak your mind clearly. I, for one, would love to hear what you have to say.

I think I Love you Paul Cocks, Tom not so much, and Mark and I already know each other XOXOX

This conversation has gone from me making an observation of the photos above to Paul saying: "Yup, more angry blacks, probably a lot of guns." To me it sounds like Paul has a serious problem with people of color. Stop sounding like a racist Paul; how long have you felt this way? This sounds similar to other comments you have made to articles on the Sacramento Press. This tells me that you have a deep rooted hate for people who are not white. Why is that?

lol, wow, you're uneducated. And obviously can only stoop to low-brow humor. Once again, another bigot pointing fingers at others in an attempt to draw the attention away from themselves. Oh and at least I have the guts to put my name on here "Trapper."

But for your edification, I used it as an analogy of how your speech was inflammatory. But if you want to try and turn it around, and end up looking uneducated...rock it out...trapper.

trapper you don't seem that polite yourself. You have done some inappropriate on this site (such using people's real name instead of the screen name they choose to be addressed by) -not cool and not done -considered rude. So I don't you have the right to lecture others. BTW I'll bet you 100 bucks that 90% of the guys at the rainbow festival were not dressed as girls but if you wern't there why should you think your opinion is worth stating? Unless you really know something maybe you shouldn't be so free with your opinion.

I'm not sure what your talking about Mark. Who's name did I use?

According to Mark here, opitions are only for those that make everyone feel good. Mark, you are far from doing that your self, so maybe you shouldn't be so free with your opition either. So once again, do as I say but not as I do, uh Mark?

You know exactly what I'm talking about. Please don't speak for me -also very rude. I never have thought opinions are for making people feel good or bad. But I do think that people should give an opinion on things they know and should listen to others when they don't know. That doesn't mean you have to land on the moon to have an opinion on a moon landing but you should at least read enough info about it to give an educated opinion -otherwise what's the point? It's like a 3 year old explaining physics. Only egotistical people think their opinion on any subject is warranted and desired. Your judgemental atitude is baffling.

I don't even think 90% of the guys in the pictures on this site were in drag. Most things I saw in the pics were people wearing tie dye and Hawaiian prints.

(Not to mention that one girl who's got some pretty tore up kneecaps....what's up with that?)

I don't think they were actually tore up. I just think the photographer oversaturated some of the photos in order to make the colors pop and ended up with some unintentional odd coloring.

I'd love to know what all the down thumbs on the pictures are for. After all, the thumb up or down is supposed to be a commentary on the quality of the article, not on the content. Or am I misunderstanding how that works?

Is someone not liking the photo work?
Did the pictures not show enough of the festival?
Or are folks just bigots?

Thank you Katie for taking such great pictures of the festival! It is our goal at The Sacramento Press to represent all communities in Sacramento and your photo essays help to do just that.

This years event seemed well organized, professionally run and apparently a good time for most. As a neighbor, I really appreciate the efforts to improve the quality of the event and it's impact on the surrounding areas over the years. Although, I could have done without the "clean up crew" taking my garbage and recycling cans and not returning them.
