I walked onto the quad of Bella Vista High School on a Sunday afternoon to a sight of 20 or so men climbing walls, running like cheetahs on all fours and swinging from trees.

This was the Sacramento regional parkour practice, led by a SFparkour.com representative, Victor Lo Forte. He has been a practitioner of parkour, or traceur, French for tracer, for three and a half years and has led the Sacramento group for about two years.

Well written, and so appealing! I remember watching this in a French movie - District B13 - and was just completely blown away by what these guy could do with their bodies. It really is an artform combined with mental/physical training. I think the police force has everything to gain and nothing to lose by implementing this into their training. I would love to see more females involved with this. Are there any traceuse's that participate in Sacramento?

Corndogg, co-founder of SF Parkour here. Great article! The SacPK group has really established themselves as leaders in the community, and as an open, diverse group that is very welcoming to newcomers. Victor and many others there can ensure you get off on the right foot, safely training with proper techniques and controlled progression. There is a great mix of traceurs, methode naturalle practitioners, freerunners and even trickers all training together, so its a great place to get exposed to different movements. I highly recommend meeting up with them and giving it a shot, regardless of sex, age, or abilities. Parkour is about control of your own movements, and finding whats right for your own body and abilities. Jam soon!
