Twenty-five Sacramento groups Oppose Nuclear Weapons

Twenty-five local Sacramento organizations and hundreds of supporters will come together on Sunday August 9th for the 64th Annual Day of Remembrance and Action to Oppose Nuclear Weapons. This family-friendly event will be held at the CSUS Alumni Center. Doors open at 4pm for networking and viewing sponsor tables with the program from 4:30-6pm. The event is free and there is adjacent free parking beside the center. For directions, go to http://www.sacstatealumni.com/alumniCenter.stm#Directions.

This is the twenty-third year our local August Peace Event committee has planned this event in Sacramento. It is held in memory of the US atomic bombing of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

August Peace Event organizer, Patsy Byers, comments, "We gather to remember this first and only use of nuclear weapons, and to renew our dedicated opposition to any further use. This work continues to be vital, as our country and other nations commit vast amounts of their resources to weapons development, while failing to stop the spread of nuclear weapons."

Program chair, Janice Nakashima says, "We have planned an event to energize and inspire us with the opportunity to participate together toward ending the threat of nuclear weapons." Included in the program are area students reading from their winning essays from the Physicians for Social Responsibility peace essay contest.

The event occurs as major US foreign policy experts, including former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, are calling for the abolition of nuclear weapons. For more information on nuclear weapons, see www.psr.org

Why aren’t you guys over in North Korea and Iran where they can't wait to finish developing atomic bombs to wipe out all those that oppose them? Back in 1994 our former president gave two uranium processing water reactors to North Korea to generate electricity, since then they have been working on an enriched uranium project thanks to Bill Clinton. Haven't we learned yet? You don't negotiate with communist because they don't ever follow the guidelines or rules of an agreement.

These Kom By Yaw moments sure make everyone feel good don't they?

Based on the current redefinitions by liberal leaders, if these are organized events to voice an opposing opinion, these folks are un-Amercian, and a lot worse. I don't agree with that, but it is the current rage, and I am a hip dude.
