Now a group of Curtis Park businesses will rename themselves.

This Saturday, Gunther's Ice Cream, Pangaea Cafe and Capsity Offices will reintroduce the corner of 3rd and Franklin streets as "The Parks."

They want to call it "The Parks" because the area is located near Curtis Park, Wi...

Thank you for your comments, Rhys02, lurch394 and Jennifer. You are all right, and I stand corrected.

Rhys: Yes. Thank you for the clarification. Technically these three businesses are in Oak Park. Sorry about the mistake. They didn't call themselves Curtis Park businesses. It was me. They called it "The Parks" because they wanted to include Oak Park and Curtis Park, since it's on the edge of the two neighborhoods, and they even wanted to include Land Park to the West and Tahoe Park to the East. Anyway, they also said they were happy to be near a historic neighborhood.

Lurch: Yes. It's 3rd Avenue. Thank you for the catch.

Jennifer: Yes, the Retrolodge is the name of a development project and not a renaming. Great comment. Perhaps a better example of a similar renaming would have been the Midtown Art Retail Restaurant Scene on 20th street in midtown.

I'd be interested to know what other micro-re-namings there have been recently and are scheduled to occur in the future.

This is an interesting article focusing on cooperative branding based on location. I like it! My only comment is that the Retrolodge was the name of development project at 11th & H long before the retail tenants arrived. The Bloc, however, was a true re-branding effort in that particular area of town.

All of these businesses are located in OAK Park which includes the west side of Franklin Blvd. As an Oak Park resident, I will remember when spending my dollars that these businesses are ashamed to be linked with one of the oldest neighborhoods of Sacramento.
