Food, drink and riding bikes sums up the Appetite Enhancement Ride in a sentence.

This event has been taking place for over 20 years. This year was my first experience with the event and due to its traditional occurrence on Thanksgiving I only had a chance to be there an hour or so in the morning.

All it took was a quick ride over from our office at 431 I street, to the Towe Museum on Front Street. By the time we rolled up there were already a couple of hundred people there, scattered throughout the parking lot.

The spread was impressive; there were great looking, and tasting, pastries, coffee and even oysters.

People were working the crowd selling raffle tickets for $1 each. The proceeds went to charity.

The people attending the event were completely varied. There were middle aged cyclists in full cycling gear, bearded younger guys, people in wigs, and one uniting factor, a whole lot of crazy bicycles.

Many of the bicycles are pictured in the slideshow above. A few of the notable standouts were a high wheel bicycle and a bicycle welded to another bicycle for the purpose of supporting a mobile drum kit.

The mood was festive, people were talkative and the bikes were impressive.

Next year I plan on sticking around for the actual bike ride.

Did you attend the Appetite Enhancement Ride this year? Have you attended it in years past? Tell me about it in the comment section below.

Was it like a bicycle parade? Do you know how long the ride was? Did it just go around downtown? Where did it get its name Appetite Enhancement Ride? Do the proceeds go to a food bank? I think the Sac Press bike should make an appearance in future years.

This ride rocks! Oysters on the halfshell! @ 2Rivers cider and the best beer in Sactown- Rubicon. The love of our 2 wheeled friends had no boundaries.

Any news about this year's ride? Is it still on? Will it still be starting at the auto museum?

The ride is on this year. It's started at the California Stage on R and 25th. But I forget where I read that and I can't find any official information!

There is never any information, it's always word of mouth. It's so much fun I hope it does go on!

The Museum parking lot has hosted this event the last few years (if not longer) and it looks like there was a great turn out! Even though we are closed on Thanksgiving, all the bicycle fanatics should come back and check us out! If you are into two-wheels, we are opening Born to Ride: Motorbikes Past and Present on January 2nd, an exhibit that includes early 20th century models, classic cruisers, contemporary customs, concept prototype illustrations and a unique collection of racing motorcycles and artifacts.

Just in case you hadn't heard --- we also changed our name this year from the Towe Auto Museum to the California Automobile Museum. Check out all the fun at www.CalAutoMuseum.org.
