While watching Mayor Kevin Johnson speak in clear but emotive language on television, it is clear he is ready to start his new position with a full head of steam.

With the American flag draped behind him he said, "We did it, I'm ready and I know you are too, and that's what it's going to need to take place. Incredible public will amongst the citizens, needs to occur for us to make real change in Sacramento."

After the confetti fell and the people left Memorial Auditorium, Kevin Johnson's personal inaugural party was held at Randy Parygary's new K street venture, Cosmo and Social. I spoke with Parygary and asked how excited he was to have the new mayors inaugural party at his location.

"It's definitely more exciting to have the change of leadership than opening a new place," Parygary said.

When asked if the Johnson administration believes in pumping life back into K street, Parygary responded, "I know Kevin does, there is a lot of excitement about Kevin's election and his energy and what he is bringing to Sacramento and K street is a big part of it."

I went up stairs to Social and enjoyed the food and drinks and watched the crowd swarm our new mayor with hugs, tears and congratulations.

The mood was very upbeat and there was a great deal of optimism both in the crowd and in the candidate. The candidate is facing a tough situation coming into office, hopefully his powerful optimism will translate into bold leadership.

You know, I'm kind of excited for KJ's administration. What with his ideas for change and all of the exciting development projects happening around town, I think we Sacramentans could show the rest of the country how "unbelievably boring" we are not.

Funny that you should say that. I was at the event and spoke with someone who mentioned that we will never be made fun of on The Colbert Report again. Similar sentiment.

It's great to hear that people are still optimistic even in the current state of things. Hopefully this optimism will help to bring back those who didn't initially support Johnson, so that we will be united as a city.

Side note: How many bars and such can one man open? Will we soon change the name from "Sacramento" to "Parytown?"

I agree with Catherine - the optimism is much needed right now. Even with the economy and the state budget, people can still be excited about change in Sacramento - locally. There seems to be a lot of enthusiasm that might give KJ enough momentum to make the changes he has promised and that our city really needs. Great article, Nicholas.
